Final Day of 2003 NCAA Championships

AUBURN, ALA. - Today was the third and final day of the 2003 women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at Auburn University. University of Hawai`i swimmers Yan Chen and YingJuan Zhen participated in the 200 Fly preliminary and the 200 Back preliminary events today, respectively. Like the preceding two days, the two swimmers did not advance onto the finals in today's events.

Chen's event of the day was the 200 Fly preliminaries (2:02.82), in which she placed 38th of the 40 swimmers in the event. The top swimmer in the event was freshman Mary DeScenza of the University of Georgia, who clocked in with a time of 1:55.82. The qualifying time needed to advance on to the finals in the event was 1:59.82.

Zhen swam in the 200 Back today. She turned in a time of 2:01.88, placing her in the 39th slot among the 47 swimmers who participated in the event. University of California swimmer Natalie Couglin notched the top spot in the event as she swam to finish with a time of 1:53.53. The time needed to advance onto the finals in the event was 1:59.41.
