SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Hawai'i women's swimming and diving squad stands in third place with 64 points after the first day of the 2003 Western Athletic Conference Championships at Palo Alto College Natatorium. Southern Methodist University holds down the first spot with 80 points, followed by the University of Nevada with 68 points. SMU finished day one off by breaking two WAC records.
The Rainbow Wahine finished third in both of today's events, the 200 Medley Relay (1:43.86) and the 800 Free Relay (7:31.14).
The 200 Medley Relay team was led by junior YingJuan Zhen. Following her was freshman Katie Clewett, sophomore Yan Chen, and the anchor leg was swam by senior Morgan Hoesterey.
The 800 Free Relay team consisted of Chen, and freshmen Jessica Affleck, Jessica Nohara, and Clewett.
The WAC Championship resumes tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free and 1-meter diving preliminaries, followed by the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 200 Free and 1-meter diving finals, at 6:30 p.m.
