HONOLULU - The Rainbow Wahine soccer program has announced the signing of one of the top female athletes in the state of Hawai`i, in Kahuku High School soccer and track standout,
Krisha Kai.
Kai, a 5-foot-6 senior, has enjoyed a decorated prep career that has seen her accumulate all-star accolades in three sports, including three All-Oahu Interscholastic Association soccer honors. Kai led the OIA Eastern Division in goals scored this season with 15, leading the Red Raiders into the post-season. As a junior, Kai earned first-team All-OIA East distinction after posting 14 goals. Kai also earned second-team all-league honors as a sophomore, finishing fifth in the division in scoring.
The multi-talented Kai has also crafted one of the most distinguished prep track and field careers in the state, already claiming a number of state and league championships entering her senior season on the oval. As a sophomore, Kai won the OIA triple-jump title, also finishing in the top five in three other events.
During her sophomore season she claimed the state triple jump title, posting top five finishes in five events at the OIA championships. Kai's junior campaign saw her win a state title in both the 100-meter high hurdles and the high jump, and OIA titles in the high jump and triple jump.
Kai also earned honorable mention All-OIA East honors in basketball in 2001, and helped the Red Raiders to the 2002 state volleyball crown.
There will be at least one familiar face on hand when Kai joins the Wahine this coming fall, as older sister Natasha will be a sophomore for coach Pinsoom Tenzing's squad. Last season the elder Kai earned Freshman All-America honors and became the first Western Athletic Conference soccer player ever to earn both Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season.
"We are certainly pleased to add a player of Krisha's caliber to our program," Tenzing said. "She is a very explosive player with wonderful straight away speed who can get to balls from practically anywhere on the field. She is a phenomenal header of the ball, and I can't be more excited to have her with us."
