HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team beat the UH Alumni squad 8-1 at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Senior
Justin Cayetano picked up the win. The attendance was 2,131.
Brian Bock led the way for UH, going 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a run scored. Nicholas Ponomarenko went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run, while Isaac Omura was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Cayetano pitched one perfect inning with two strikeouts while Richard Olsen pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.
UH got on the board early as Joshua Green and Ponomarenko drove in runs in the first inning. Omura provided the big blast in the second inning with a two-run triple to right field before Brent Cook drove him in to put the Rainbows up 5-0. Bock then sealed the deal with a three-run double in the fourth inning, putting UH up 8-0 before a double by former UH pitcher Aaron Pribble provided the alumni team with their only run of the game.
Hawai`i will officially start their season on Friday, Feb. 7, when they host the UCLA Bruins at 6:35 p.m. Following that game, UH will face the Bruins again on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 6:35 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 1:05 p.m.
