RENO, Nevada--The University of Hawai`i Warrior golf squad is in a three-way tie for eighth place with a 289 after the first round of the Ernest F. Lied Wolf Pack Classic at the Wolf Run Golf Course. UH is just seven strokes off the pace of tournament leader New Mexico State.
Leading the charge for the Warriors is freshman Geoffrey Stevens who shot a four-under 68 in the first round to finish in a tie for first with three others. After shooting 35 on the front nine, Stevens turned up his game with a 33 to finish the day strong. Matthew Kodama completed the opening round with an even-par 72, which landed him in 27th place. Also competing for the Warriors are Manarii Gauthier(74), James Beston (75) and Jordan Belton (81).
The Aggies lead the 18-team field with a team score of 282, one stroke ahead of second place Denver (283). Tied with UH's Stevens for first place are Chris Stroud of Lamar, Danny Bowen of New Mexico State and Adam Choy of Boise State. Par for the 7100-yard course is 72.
Action at the Wolf Run Golf Course in Reno, Nevada concludes tomorrow.
