UH's Moreno Captures 5th at Hawai`i Diving Invitational

HONOLULU- The University of Hawai`i men's and women's diving teams were among eight schools who participated in the Hawai`i Diving Invitational this morning at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.

Today's meet began with the women's 1-meter event and concluded with the men's 3-meter. On the women's side, only Victorya Moreno dived. UH divers Jamie Parrot and Jen Miller are currently on break and Maggie Roberts is out for a few weeks due to ligament damage in her left ankle. Moreno scored 200.15 in the 1-meter, placing fifth among 18 divers.

The top three spots in the women's 1-meter went to K C Bunnell of Wisconsin (245.85), Sarah Wiezorek of Wisconsin (236.60), and Heather Bachmen of Purdue (235.65).

UH's Mike Gowdy and Jonathan Coyle dived for the men in the 3-meter event and took the top two spots among the 10 participants. Gowdy won with his score of 528.40, while Coyle was a close scored at 500.75.

The Hawai`i Diving Invitational resumes with the second and final day Wednesday, Jan. 8, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
