HONOLULU- The University of Hawai`i women's swimming and diving team dropped to the Washington Huskies, 112-166, at the final dual meet of the season today, at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. The competition was fierce as UH faced the Huskies for the second time this season. The Wahine finish dual meets off at 5-11.
YingJuan Zhen, ranked 38th in the 100 Back on Taper & Shave's College Top 50, finished the event in the top slot. Zhen also notched the top spot in the 200 Back (2:03.28), the event that she is ranked 42nd in on the College Top 50.
Jessica Affleck displayed fantastic skill as she broke a school record in the 1650-Free, in which she finished in second (16:51.89). The previous record was set in 1986. Affleck also had a strong swim in the 500 Free, finishing second (5:02.69).
Katie Clewitt had a great day today as she flew to touch the wall first in the 100 Breast (1:05.09). Clewitt continued to score for the women as she swam to a first place finish in the 200 Breast (2:20.88). Clewitt surpassed he season-best time in the event.
Yan Chen turned in individual highlights, as she finished first in the 100 Fly (56.44), beating her previous season-best time. Chen also captured a first place finish in the 400 IM (4:22.32).
Victorya Moreno was the sole women diver today. She posted a score of 269.18 in the 1-meter event, improving her previous best. She turned in 219.23 in the 3-meter. Washington did not have divers.
The University of Hawai`i women's swimming and diving team will participate in the Senior Circuit, which is slated for Feb. 7. The meet begins at 6 p.m. at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
