HONOLULU- The University of Hawai`i women's swimming and diving team knocked off the University of New Hampshire, 81-50, while falling to the University of Wisconsin, 96-34, tonight at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. The Rainbow Wahine currently stand at 4-10 in dual meets this season.
The scoring for the women got underway as Jessica Affleck swam to a second place finish in the 1000 Free, clocking in at 10:01.12. Affleck beat her previous record of 10:10.47 in the event and holds the season-best time and the school record. Affleck also had an excellent finish in the 500 Free, improving her second best time (5:01.20) of the season.
Yan Chen swam strong tonight as she surpassed her previous best time in the 100 Free (52.54). She also took second place finishes in the 200 Free (1:51.19) and the 200 IM (2:03.04). She is currently ranked 8th in the 200 IM on Taper & Shave's College Top 50.
Katie Clewitt turned in highlights tonight as she sailed to a second place finish and beat her season-best time in the 100 Breast (1:04.90). Clewitt then went on to beat her season-best time in the 200 Breast (2:21.23) and holds the third best time in the 100 Fly (58.44).
Morgan Hoesterey returned tonight after an absence due to an injury earlier this season. Hoesterey finished in the fifth slot in the 50 Free, clocking in with a time of 24.64.
YingJuan Zhen flew to a top finish in the 200 Back, finishing at 2:01.60. Zhen also had a good finish in the 100 Back, coming in third with her time of 57.85.
Diving for the Rainbow Wahine tonight was Victorya Moreno. Moreno had a second place finish among the nine divers in the 1-meter, scoring 230.35. In the 3-meter, she finished fourth with a score of 233.75, surpassing her previous best score of the season and holds the second best score.
The University of Hawai`i women's swimming and diving team will face off against San Diego State on Jan. 17. The meet begins at 6 p.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
