LAIE, OAHU - The University of Hawai`i women's cross country team got out of the blocks strong this morning winning their first race of the season. Hawai`i posted 31 points to solidify first place at the Chaminade Invitational held on the BYU-Hawai`i campus in Laie, Oahu.
UH edged cross-town rival Hawai`i Pacific by six points, while BYU-Hawai`i finished third with 73 points followed by Hawai`i-Hilo (87) and host Chaminade (147).
UH got a strong performance from Victoria Chang who finished third overall.
Chang, a local product who transferred back to the islands from Stanford, ran a time of 18:39 just edging out teammate Hanna Bremler's time of 18:58.
The other three runners that scored for the Rainbow Wahine were Jenny Bell (6th, 19:18), Alethe West (8th, 19:49), and Jennifer Crumley (10th, 20:06).
Nineteen of UH's 23 member squad participated in the race. A total of 46 runners ran this morning.
