Wahine Soccer 2001 Attendance 10th Best in the Country

NULL

HONOLULU - The Wahine Soccer team recorded one of the top attendance figures in the country once again this past year, averaging 1,129 fans per match at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium to post the 10th best mark in NCAA Division I soccer.

The 2001 Western Athletic Conference runners-up drew 6,776 fans over six matches to post their best average attendance figure ever, despite losing a bunch of contests in the aftermath of the attack on America on Sept. 11.

The Wahine have enjoyed a loyal fan base for some time. In 1997, while at Ala Wai Field near Waikiki, the Wahine posted the eighth best total attendance figure in the West Region. In 1998, they drew 6,277 total fans to post the 19th best mark in the country.

After a year playing at the school's practice facility due to construction at Ala Wai, the Wahine moved into their current home at the Waipio Soccer Complex and finished the year ninth in the nation in both total (12,892) and average (1,074) attendance.

The Rainbow Wahine open their 2002 season at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium against Alabama-Birmingham on August 30, at 7:00 p.m. in the OHANA Hotels & Resorts No Ka Oi.
