HAWAI`I COMPLETES CALIFORNIA INVITATIONAL

AZUSA, Calif. - University of Hawai`i completed the final day of the California Invitational today in the final four events of the heptatholon, at the Azusa Pacific University Stadium. Also, cross country All-American Cheryl Smith placed sixth in the 10,000-meter run at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays late tonight.

Senior Sadie Martin led the Rainbow Wahine with a total of 3972 points for 22nd place. Martin started the day with 2230 points, accumulating the most of her day’s points in the 200m. Her time of 28.16 seconds was enough to earn 618 points.

Other Wahine competing were freshmen Lana Philips, Kira Lee, and sophomore Kim Higa. Philips finished in 25th with 3536 points, Higa had 3170 points to place her 26th, while Lee had 2965 points and a 27th place showing.

UH's Smith was the only Rainbow Wahine participating tonight in the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. She ran a 34:48.18 time in the 10,000-meter run good enough for sixth place overall. She finished approximately 40 seconds behind the winner, Sita Waru, of McNeese State. Next up for the Wahine is the Long Beach Invitational, tomorrow April 20 as well as a few ladies finishing up events at the Mt. SAC Relays.
