2002 Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Schedule Announced

NULL

HONOLULU -- The University of Hawai`i announced their 2002 women's volleyball schedule, highlighted by 12 matches against teams that were in the 2001 NCAA tournament.

One match that is still pending negociations is a possible Nov. 10 match with the defending national champion Stanford Cardinal. Although the match is not yet set, it would probably be the best matchup of the season for Hawai`i. Stanford returns many of their players from the national championship team including the 2001 National Player of the Year, Logan Tom.

The Rainbow Wahine will open the season on Aug. 30 with the 15th Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic. The Classic will include Ohio State, Colorado, UCLA and Hawai`i, with all four teams being ranked in the final 2001 top 25 poll.

Hawai`i will also host their eighth Aston Imua Wahine Volleyball Challenge with Washington, San Diego State and San Francisco participating.

Other non-conference opponents include two matches with Cal Poly and Notre Dame, single matches with Houston and St. Mary's and a season-ending trip to Utah, where Hawai`i will face two former WAC rivals in BYU and Utah.

Hawai`i returns 11 of the 12 players from last year's roster and will add the services of 2000 All-American Lily Kahumoku. The Rainbow Wahine will also add two recruits, Susie Boogaard and Cayley Thurlby.
