Rainbow Wahine Swimmers Move up One Spot at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- The University of Hawai`i’s Cheyne Bloch broke the school record for the 100 Breaststroke Friday at the second day of the Texas Invitational. The No. 24th ranked Rainbow men’s swimming team is in 6th place with 225 points, while the Rainbow Wahine moved up one spot into 10th with 61 points as both Texas men’s and women’s teams lead the invite.

Bloch, a two-time All-American, broke the UH record in the 100 Breast with a time of 53.92 seconds during the preliminary stage and then took second place with a 54.15 later in the day. The junior from Wailuku, Maui, elipsed his own mark of 54.38 recorded earlier this year.

In the men’s 3-meter diving, Mike Gowdy placed third among the 16 male divers with a score of 529.10, while Jonathan Coyle took seventh (471.50).

In the women’s 1-meter diving, Maggie Roberts finished sixth among the 16 women’s divers with a score of 259.00.

The Texas Invitational concludes late tonight with the following: 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 1,650 Free, 400 Free Relay, and the combined men’s and women’s platform diving.
