Yan Chen Breaks UH 200 IM Mark

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- The University of Hawai`i's Yan Chen broke the school record for the 200 IM Thursday at the first day of the Texas Invitational. The men's swimming team is in 6th place with 88 points, while the Rainbow Wahine are 11th with 28 as California and Texas lead the men's and women's divisions, respectively.

Chen, a sophomore transfer from China, broke the UH record in the 200 IM hitting the wall in one minute and 59.83 seconds. The old school mark was set last spring by Katia Sarakatsani (2:04.29). Chen surpassed her previous best time by almost five seconds.

In the Texas Diving Invitational, UH sent three divers -- Mike Gowdy and Jonathan Coyle on the men's side and Maggie Roberts on the women's.

In the men's 1-meter diving, Gowdy placed second among the 15 male divers with a score of 316.95, while Coyle took fourth (280.65).

In the women's 3-meter diving, Roberts finished sixth among the 16 women's divers with a score of 467.20.

The Texas Invitational goes through Saturday, December 7.
