HONOLULU -- University of Hawai`i sophomore
Kim Willoughby received another award for her phenominal 2001 volleyball season today as she was named to the Asics/Volleyball Magazine Division I All-American team.
Willoughby was one of only two left-side hitters named to the seven player team, and the only sophomore named to the first team. She led the nation in kills this season with 850 on the year and 7.20 per game.
Logan Tom, of the national champion Stanford Cardinal was named the player of the year, while Arizona coach David Rubio was named the national coach of the year. Tom was the only other underclassman named to the first team besides Willoughby.
Others named to the first team were setter Dana Burkholder (Arizona), setter Lizzy Fitzgerald (Wisconsin), middle blocker Sherisa Livingston (Wisconsin), opposite hitter Nancy Metcalf (Nebraska) and middle blocker Cheryl Weaver (Long Beach State). The magazine also announced second, third, honorable mention and all-freshman teams. Minnesota setter Lindsey Berg, formerly of Honolulu's Punahou High School, was named honorable mention.
Willoughby is currently in Boise, Idaho, playing for the Rainbow Wahine basketball team.
