University of Hawai'i at Manoa Athletics

Evan Silberstein completed his second season as an assistant coach with the SandBows, bringing to the UH staff a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion for beach volleyball.

 In his first two years – both under head coach Jeff Hall – he’s helped the program continue its ascent on the national stage. During his first season in 2015, UH won 17 of its first 18 matches to attain the school’s first-ever No. 1 ranking. The Rainbow Wahine ended the season by advancing to the quarterfinals of the AVCA National Championship.

In 2016, UH won the Big West Championship and finished fourth in the inaugural NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships held in Gulf Shores, Ala. Silberstein has also aided in the development of four All-Americans and 10 all-conference players during his first two years.

Silberstein came to Manoa from the University of San Francisco where he was a member of the Dons’ sand volleyball coaching staff in 2014. Formerly a head coach in the USAV Aloha Region High Performance Beach Program, he’s also coached indoor high school volleyball for a number of years. Among his stops were national powerhouse Punahou School on O‘ahu and several schools in his native New York.

As a player, Silberstein competed on the professional beach circuit, including the AVP, as well as international competitions in Mexico, Canada, Jamaica, Guam, and Saipan. In 2001 he won a gold medal in the 2001 Macabiah Games in Israel.

Silberstein graduated with a B.A. from Arizona State where he was the starting setter and captain for the Sun Devils’ nationally-ranked collegiate club program. He also holds a J.D. from the UH Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law.
