Former Rainbow captain Guy Fleming joined the Hawai`i coaching staff in 1991. Fleming, a member of the UH sailing team from 1985-1988, sailed under then-head coach Charlie Dole. he graduated from UH in 1989, receiving his bachelor's degree in English.
From 1982-86, Fleming was a sailing intructor at Rainbow Bay Marina. From 1985-91, he was the head instructor at the Waikiki Yacht CLub (WYC). In 1989, Fleming repaired and made sails for North Sails. In 1991, he was named sailing director at the WYC, a position which he still holds.
In 1996, Fleming won the Hawai`i State Singlehanded Championships sailing Lasers, beating several Rainbow team members.
Fleming was born July 15, 1966, in Monterey, Calif., and graduated from Radford High School in Honolulu, O`ahu in 1984. In his free time, he enjoys running, biking, swimming and Tai-Chi. his biggest athletic thrill was running in the Honolulu Marathon.
