Joe Spahn

Joe Spahn joined UH in 2013-14 as the assistant swimming coach for the University of Hawai'i swimming programs.

Prior to his arrival at Hawai'i, Spahn was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at UNLV where he helped guide the men's team to a 2012-13 MPSF Championship. Prior to his position at UNLV, Spahn served as a graduate assistant at Georgia.

At Georgia, he coached under Olympic head coach Jack Bauerle. While there, the women's team won three SEC titles and twice placed second in the NCAA Championships. Spahn has also coached numerous NCAA champions and olympians.

Spahn grew up in Albuquerue, New Mexico, where his father was the head swim coach at the University of New Mexico for 24 years. Spahn earned his bachelor's of science in physical education at Minnesota State University - Mankato where he lettered in swimming. As an athlete, Spahn was an all-conference, academic all-conference, and conference champion. Spahn went on to earn his master's degree in kinesiology from Georgia.
