LA JOLLA, Calif. — The fifth-ranked University of Hawai'i water polo team hits the road to compete in the Triton Invitational for a fourth consecutive year with matches hosted at UC San Diego's Canyonview Pool and Triton Pool in La Jolla, Calif.

The tournament will be played Friday to Sunday (Jan. 31-Feb. 2) and features a 16-team pool.

UH is featured in Bracket C which includes Fresno State and fellow Big West members UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Fullerton. The 'Bows open the Triton Invitational against Cal State Fullerton on Friday at 10:40 a.m. Pacific Time (8:40 a.m. Hawai'i Time) at Triton Pool. The 'Bows will face Fresno State or UC Santa Barbara on Saturday morning at Canyonview Pool with the game time to be determined by Friday's results. Bracket play continues in Saturday's afternoon session and the tournament concludes with placement matches on Sunday.

OPENING SPRINT

• UH is on a three game win-streak after defeating No. 10 Loyola Marymoount (11-9), Biola (20-4) and No. 12 Arizona State (14-7) in the Rainbow Invitational at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
• UH was led offensively by freshman Ema Vernoux who scored 13 goals, including a season-high six goals against ASU. Stevilyn Griffin netted three goals against Biola and Bernadette Doyle earned her second hat trick of the season against the Sun Devils.
• Vernoux leads the team with 17 goals with an .708 shooting percentage. Doyle is next with 11 goals and a .524 shooting percentage. 
• Senior Jordan Wedderburn has seven goals this season and reached 100 for her career in the win over Arizona State.
• Doyle leads the team defensively with nine steals followed by goalie Daisy Logtens with six.
• UH is 9-3 all-time in the Triton Invitational and went 3-1 last season defeating San Diego State (21-7), UC Davis (14-9) and USC (10-6) and falling to UCLA (13-12) in overtime.

TRITON INVITATIONAL FIELDThe Triton Invitational is divided into four brackets. Teams will compete within their brackets for the first two games then crossover to other brackets for Saturday's second game and Sunday's matches. The top two teams from Brackets A and D meet on Saturday afternoon as well as the top two from Brackets B and C.
