SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The No. 8 University of Hawaii women's water polo team defeated Santa Clara University on Thursday afternoon at the Sullivan Aquatic Center, opening the season with a 1-0, 0-0 Big West Record.
The Rainbow Wahine pulled ahead early on scoring four goals in the first quarter, while the Broncos trailed by two. Sophomores
Claire Nixon and
Chloe Barr both started off their season extremely strong with four goals each, out of the total fifteen.
Senior Lauren Radich led the Broncos (0-1, 0-0 Big West) in scoring with a team-high of 3 goals.
The Rainbow Wahine put together an impressive performance, taking a 4-2 lead after the first quarter and a 7-3 lead going into halftime, before breezing into the final two quarters. UH improved to an outstanding 15-5 against Santa Clara with the win.
Next up, UH heads to Hayward to play Cal State East Bay on Friday, Jan. 30 at 5:00 p.m. PT.
