AIEA, O`ahu - Aloha Stadium is making an effort to accommodate fans with parking and tailgating for the upcoming University of Hawai`i football season, Stadium Manager Scott Chan announced today.

Although most of the parking gates are scheduled to open at the usual time (2:30 p.m.), the LOWER HALAWA LOT will open at 1:30 p.m. for fans. The LOWER HALAWA LOT accommodates approximately 1,500 vehicles.

In addition, Centerplate will host a tailgate area in the grass area near the UPPER HALAWA LOT (near poles 1 and 29). The enclosed tailgate will be air conditioned and equipped with televisions to watch other football games around the country.

Various types of food and beverages will be available for purchase inside the tailgate. Fans utilizing the shuttle service from alternate parking sites (Radford High School, Kam Drive-In, Leeward Community College) will be allowed FREE access to this area. Fans can also pay a $5 cover charge to enter the tailgate.

"We are trying to do things to help alleviate the traffic problems surrounding the stadium on game days," Chan said. "We think opening the Lower Halawa Lot an hour early, along with the tailgate area hosted by Centerplate, will help. Although these are two small steps, we hope to continue to look for ways to be more fan friendly for all events at Aloha Stadium."

Access to the LOWER HALAWA LOT will be through parking gate 4 beginning at 1:30 p.m. Vehicles will NOT be allowed to move to other sections of the parking lot from the LOWER HALAWA LOT.

ALTERNATE PARKING SITES (All open at 2:30 p.m.)
Kam Drive-in - Parking is $5 per vehicle with FREE shuttle service and FREE admission to the new tailgate area.
Leeward Community College - Parking is FREE. Cost is $2 for shuttle service with FREE admission to the new tailgate area.
Radford High School - Parking is $5. NO shuttle service available. FREE admission to the new tailgate area.
Note: Security is present at all alternate parking sites. Shuttle serviced begins at 3:30 p.m. and up to one hour after the game ends.
