HONOLULU - The Hawai`i men's tennis team concludes its regular season by hosting No. 30 Boise State, Wednesday, April 20. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex. The match is the team's final tune-up before the Western Athletic Conference Championships, which the school is hosting, April 21-24.
The Rainbow Warriors (6-13) have dropped their last three dual matches and four of five overall. The Broncos (23-7) feature former Punahou School standout, Ikaika Jobe, who transferred to BSU after spending three seasons at Saint Louis University.
Aloha Senior
Senior Dalibor Ptak will play his final home regular season matches on Wednesday. A transfer from the College of the Desert, has played nearly all of his 50 career singles matches at the No. 1 court. In two seasons, Ptak has won 43 career singles and doubles matches.
Sceats on a Roll
Since the start of the new year, junior Ryan Sceats has been nearly unbeatable, winning 12 of 13 singles matches to improve to 16-6 overall. His only loss was to San Diego State's Armando Carrascosa, 6-4, 6-2, on April 8. Sceats shares the team lead with Bryon Weinberg with 16 singles victories. In addition, he has a 13-2 mark in dual matches at the No. 3 court. In doubles play, Sceats has posted an 11-9 record with partners Jarrod Diepraam and Dalibor Ptak.
Tough Competition
The Rainbow Warriors have played numerous ranked teams this season. Of the team's 13 losses, nine have been to ranked opponents. Hawai`i's highest ranked opponent this season was Stanford (#7). The Rainbow Warriors also competed against Division II No. 9 BYU-Hawai`i and suffered defeats to Division III No. 7 Gustavus Adolphus and NAIA No. 1 Azusa Pacific.
WAC Honors Weinberg, Sceats
Junior Bryon Weinberg has been honored twice this season by the WAC. In November, he was named WAC Player of the Month after advancing to the ITF Waikoloa Futures round of 32 and winning all three of his Qualifying round matches. In March, Weinberg earned WAC Player of the Week honors after upsetting No. 60 Nic Beuque of San Diego. Junior Ryan Sceats was named WAC Player of the Week after winning both of his matches against opponents from nationally ranked Oklahoma and UNLV in February.
