Weaver Sets Personal Best in Shot Put at Pomona-Pitzer Invite

POMONA, Calif. - Freshman Meghan Weaver was among a handful of Hawai`i track athletes to compete in both the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational at Robert Strehle Track and the Mt. SAC Relays in nearby Walnut, Calif., Friday. Weaver started the day by setting a personal best in the shot put and finished by placing fourth in the discus at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Weaver's throw of 14.66m marked the second time this season that the freshman posted an NCAA Regional qualifying score. She bested her previous mark of 14.56m set at last week's Meet of Champions in Los Angeles.

Also competing at the Pomona-Pitzer meet were Tasha Monroe (100m - 12.17), Ku'ulei Karratti (100m - 13.14, hammer - 42.40m), Ashley Monfort (800m - 2:24.13), Sheena Thain (800m - 2:23.15, 1500m - 4:56.27), Chantelle Laan (1500m - 4:59.75), Jessica Rohr (400m hurdles - 1:04.71), Haunani Bertelmann (400m hurdles - 1:07.48), Candace Rosenthal (400m hurdles - 1:09.15), Alexis Fredrick (shot put - 11.02m, discus - 38.46m, hammer - 48.35m), and Novelle Murray (discus - 47.78m).

In addition, the 4x400m relay team, consisted of Rosenthal, Monfort, Rohr, and Bertelmann, recorded a time of 4:02.12.

Before heading off to Mt. SAC, Weaver also competed in the hammer throw. In addition to Weaver, Gauthier, Murray, and Monroe also pulled double duty entering both meets.

The entire Rainbow Wahine track team will compete in the Long Beach State Invitational on Sunday. Only four athletes will participate on Day 3 of the Mt. SAC Relays on Sunday (Weaver - shot put, Young - 400m hurdles, Rohr - 400m hurdles, and Monroe - 100m and 200m).
