Bell, Eberhard Post Personal Bests at Triton Invitational

SAN DIEGO - A split University of Hawai`i women's track squad competed today in the first day of the UC San Diego Triton Invitation with six events being determined at the Triton Track and Field Stadium on the La Jolla campus.

Only three university women's events were on tap for today -- 5000-meter run, 3000-meter Steeplechase, and the hammer throw.

UH's Jenn Bell captured second place in the 5000m run (18:05.15). It was a personal best time for Bell who bettered her old mark by seven seconds.

Teammates Shayne Enright placed fourth (20:02.25), Heidi Frank was fifth (20:15.90), and Carin Patterson placed sixth (20:50.52) in the 5000m run.

Hannah Eberhard posted a personal best time in the 3000m Steeplechase (11:31.23), while teammate Monica Su took fifth (12:01.81).

The only other UH athletes competing today were Novelle Murray and Alexis Fredrick in the hammer throw. The two Rainbow Wahine finished in 30th and 31st places, respectively, as Murray had a toss of 39.76m (130-05), while Fredrick's throw was 39.68m (130-02).

Saturday's second and final day features a full slate of action with the throwing events getting underway at 7 a.m. HST, the jumping starting at 8 a.m., and the running events taking off at 9 a.m.
