Senior Meet Results

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i men and women's swimming squads opened up the 2004-05 season tonight in the 2004 Hawaiian Senior Meet at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

Although there were no records set tonight, the Rainbow Wahine newcomers posted some impressive times in their first collegiate meet.

Bache' Atkins, a sophomore from Mermaid Beach, Queensland, Australia, almost eclipsed her personal best mark in the 200 Free (1:51.90), while moving into second all-time on the UH 1000 Free (10:05.41).

Melanie Schlanger, a freshman sprint freestylist, clocked times good enough to break into UH's all-time Top 10 lists in both the 50 Free and 100 Free.

Schlanger touched at 23.61 seconds in the 50 Free good enough to tie her for ninth on the list with former swimmer Lisa Miller (1988). The native of Buderim, Queensland, Australia, also posted a time of 51.25 seconds in the 100 Free to take over the 10th slot on the UH all-time list.

Also making her mark in her debut was Cassie Hunt, a freshman from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, who now owns the seventh all-time fastest time in UH history in the 200 Free (1:52.22).

On the men's side, newcomer Grzegorz Mroz, a sophomore from Szczecin, Poland, jumped into third on the UH all-time 1000 Free list with a time of 9:17.27.

The women host perennial Pac-10 power Stanford next Saturday, Oct. 23, at 10 a.m. at The Duke, while the men are idle.
