Five ’Bows Selected MPSF Men’s Volleyball All-Academic

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Five members of the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team were selected to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic team announced by the conference office.
 
Middle blocker Taylor Averill and opposite Johann Timmer each earned their third MPSF all-academic award while outside hitter Sinisa Zarkovic, setter Joby Ramos, and libero Kolby Kanetake were first-year recipients.
 
Averill, a junior from San Jose, Calif., was a first-team AVCA All-American and first-team all-MPSF selection who led the nation in hitting percentage (.477) and ranked eighth in blocking (1.22 per set). Timmer, a senior from Auckland, New Zealand, finished his three-year career by appearing in all 27 matches as a reserve outside hitter and serving specialist in 2014.
 
Zarkovic, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, ranked second on the team in kills (3.00 per set) and third in digs (1.19) and service aces (16). Ramos, a senior from Honolulu, started all 27 matches at setter and averaged 10.39 assists and 1.74 digs per set. Kanetake, a sophomore from Honolulu, led the team with a 2.08 digs per set average which ranked 11th in the MPSF.
 
Only Stanford (9), UC San Diego (8), and BYU (6) had more all-academic honorees than Hawai'i.
 
The criteria included a 3.0 grade point average or better, at least a sophomore standing academically, have completed one full academic year and must have played in 50 percent or more of the team's matches.
