Wright Forgoes Senior Season, Signs With Indians

CLEVELAND - University of Hawai`i pitcher Steven Wright has decided to forgo his senior season with the University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team and has signed with the Cleveland Indians organization that drafted him in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft earlier.

The Moreno Valley, Calif., native finished his junior year with an 11-2 record, holding a 2.30 ERA with 123 strikeouts in 109.2 innings pitched. He became UH's first 10-game winner since 1996.

Wright was named to the National Baseball Foundation, Baseball America and Louisville Slugger All-America teams, while being named the WAC Pitcher of the Year.
