Beach Volleyball Signs Six For 2017

HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i beach volleyball coach Jeff Hall announced the signing of six players to national letters of intent. Cyrene Hertzog, Sydney Kidd, Julia Chizanskos, Amy Ozee, Morgan Martin and Chloe Luyties will all join the 'Bows for the 2016-17 season.
 
"I am very excited about our incoming 2016-17 beach volleyball recruits at the University of Hawai'i," said Jeff Hall who is in his second season with the 'Bows. "Our program has reached national prominence and we intend to stay there long into the future with this phenomenal group of talented student-athletes. From San Diego to San Francisco, all the way to Seattle and across the archipelago on Maui we have tapped into the top juniors available and expect great things from this group. We are confident they will be positive contributors in our community, impact players on the court, and exceptional students in the classroom."
 
Morgan Martin – Mission Viejo, Calif. (Capistrano Valley High School)
Won inaugural FIVB Beach Volleyball U-17 World Championship in 2014…won her age group title at the FIVB AGWC in 2014…placed 13th at the 2015 AVP Championships in Huntington Beach, Calif. and is a AAA rated player on the CBVA tour.
Hall quote: "Morgan is the top beach recruit in the nation and excels in every aspect of the game. She is a defending FIVB World Champion in her age division and has already qualified for an AVP beach tournament, playing against the best professional players in the US. There is no doubt there are great things in store for her here at UH. Simply stated, she's a game changer."

Amy Ozee – Makawao, Maui (Seabury Hall/Kuikahi Volleyball Club)
Aloha Volleyball Summer and Aloha Region Beach Series champion…silver medal at the 2014 Pan Pacific Tournament…seventh at the 2015 AAU West Coast Junior Olympics…four-time all-league indoor selection at Seabury Hall…top 15 finish with indoor club team at the 2015 AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships. 
Hall quote: "Amy comes to UH from Seabury Hall where she was not only a standout volleyball player but she was also a state champion in the high jump. Long, lanky and silky smooth on the sand, she decided to stay home to help us in our quest to win a national title and we are so glad she did. We are looking for great things from her in the years to come."

Qualified for the Junior Beach National Championships each of the last five years…won gold at the prestigious Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament along with three other major tournaments…named the 2013 Puget Sound Beach Volleyball Player of the Year.
Hall quote: "Cyrene is an athletic and polished player with an impressive resume of wins across the region including an age division championship at the illustrious Seaside Open. Intelligent and hardworking, we look forward to the contributions Cyrene will make to our squad in 2017 and beyond."

Chloe Luyties – San Diego, Calif. (La Jolla Senior High School/692 Beach Volleyball Club)
AAA rated in California…ranked 5th on the CBVA tour U18…1 pair for the La Jolla beach volleyball team…medaled in 13 of 16 events in 2015.  
Hall quote: "Chloe has won at every level of the junior beach game in Southern California. She is AAA rated and comes from a volleyball family that knows what it takes to be the best as her Dad is 1988 Olympic Gold Medal Setter and AVP legend Ricci Luyties. No surprise that Chloe's volleyball IQ is off the charts, we are excited to guide her growth and watch her blossom in the collegiate ranks."

Sydney Kidd – Carlsbad, Calif. (La Costa Canyon High School/San Diego Beach Volleyball Club)
Performs at La Costa Canyon High School and played her club ball for the San Diego Beach Volleyball Club…with her club partner took home the U18 title at the 2015 CBVA championships…won several AAU junior beach volleyball events, including four junior olympic bids, and twice qualified for Pan Pacific Championships in Honolulu. 
Hall quote: "Sydney is a San Diego player who emerged in recent years as a top rated junior beach player who plays with passion, intensity and skill. She was an AAU All-American and has grown into a fantastic all around beach player who promises to bring great energy and enthusiasm every time she steps on the sand at UH."

Julia Chizanskos

 
Julia Chizanskos – Gilroy, Calif. (Archbishop Mitty High School/City Beach Volleyball Club)
Won gold at the NCVA NorCal Championships and bronze at the AAU Junior Nationals…runner-up finish at the Los Angeles Open…selected to the Best Volleyball Players of AAU in 2014.
Hall quote: "Julia is a proven winner and comes to Hawai'i from Archbishop Mitty in Northern California where she is a two time indoor volleyball state champion. She honed her beach skills winning tournaments at the world famous Santa Cruz beach boardwalk and will be a tremendous asset to our program."
