Head Coach Dave Shoji enters his 39th season with the 'Bows

2013 Big West All-Conference Team | VIDEO: "The Heart To Win"

IRVINE, Calif. – For the second straight year the University of Hawai'i has been selected as the Big West Conference's top pick in the women's volleyball preseason poll, as selected unanimously by the nine league coaches.

In their first year back in the Big West after a 16-year hiatus, the 'Bows ran the table with a perfect 18-0 league mark in 2012 to capture its sixth Big West title and 18th straight overall.  The unblemished record was the first perfect season in Big West play since UC Santa Barbara posted an identical record in 2002.

UH advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season and finished with an overall 27-3 record. AVCA All-American Emily Hartong will look to guide a veteran Rainbow Wahine team that returns four starters plus libero Ali Longo. The 'Bows also return three members of last season's Big West all-conference team which includes all-region setter Mita Uiato and the league's most efficient hitter in Jade Vorster.

UH kicks off the season against defending national champion Texas on Aug. 30 at the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational. Also on the horizon is a milestone win for head coach Dave Shoji who, with four more victories, will become the winningest coach in Division I women's volleyball history.
