HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team will look to notch its first win when it hosts No. 10 Rice this week in a four-game series at Les Murakami Stadium. The 'Bows and Owls will play Friday, Feb. 22 (6:35 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 23 (1:05 p.m.), Sunday, Feb. 24 (1:05 p.m.), and Monday, Feb. 25 (6:35 p.m.).
Hawai'i suffered four tough losses to No. 5 Oregon this past week to open the season. The 'Bows had their best shot at a win on Friday, but couldn't take advantage of a handful of scoring opportunities and lost 5-4.
On the mound, senior
Connor Little made his first appearance in a year and a half after taking a medical redshirt in 2012. He tossed 6.1 strong innings before being lifted in the seventh after allowing two earned runs. Freshman
Quintin Torres-Costa also had a strong showing in his first collegiate start, working into the fifth inning on Saturday allowing five runs with three strikeouts.
Rice opened the season winning two of three games against then-No. 7 Stanford. Shane Holster leads the team in batting average (.455) and slugging percentage (.545). On the mound, John Simms closed the Stanford series with a win, allowing just one hit in 7.1 scoreless innings.
