WAILUKU, Maui – The University of Hawai'I Warrior football team held a spirited two-hour practice, Saturday morning, at Maui's War Memorial Stadium. The team practiced for the first hour and held a brief scrimmage.

Several hundred spectators attended the practice and cheered when the team opened the practice with the haka. The team then walked arm-in-arm the length of the field to begin stretching exercises.

"It was fun, it was fun being here (on Maui), hopefully the young guys realize how fortunate they are for doing this," Chow said. "I thought the effort was good and we'll look at the tape and see how we did otherwise."

Among the highlights from the scrimmage was back-up quarterback Jeremy Higgins who threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Cecil Doe and 40-yarder to Jeremiah Ostrowski. On the touchdown, Doe leaped over his defender and ran the final 25-yards.

"It felt really good, the o-line gave me time and the receivers making plays, I just threw it up for them and they made the plays," Higgins said.

The defense recorded a pair of interceptions one by Dylan McCagg off a pass from Higgins and another by John Hardy-Tuliau, who stole the ball away from a receiver.

The practice marked the fourth consecutive year that the Warriors held a spring practice on a neighbor island, and the second trip to Maui. Last season, UH practiced at the Kamehameha Schools-Keaau campus on Hawai'i island and in 2010 the team visited Kaua'i.

"I think its very important to be able to reach out to our neighbor island fans." senior defensive end Paipai Falemalu said. "A lot of them don't have the opportunity, like our fans on O'ahu, to watch us practice and to see our games. I think they greatly appreciate being able to see us because some of us take it for granted how many people get to see us on O'ahu."

Saturday's practice was No. 12 of the spring and the Warriors will hold two more practices before the "Spring Fling," Friday, April 27 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field.
