Game Notes
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team will look to regain some momentum when it takes to the road for seven games in nine days. This week UH will play at San Jose State (Apr. 20-22) for its first Western Athletic Conference road series followed by a Tuesday game at Grambling State (Apr. 24).
The Rainbows will have their hands full against San Jose State who enters the series undefeated in WAC play at 3-0. Hawai'i is currently 2-1 and one game behind the Spartans in the conference standings. The two teams met in last season's WAC Tournament, with the 'Bows edging SJSU, 2-1, on the heels of a dominating Matt Sisto pitching performance. Hawai'i and Grambling played their lone meeting in 2006 where UH won 11-2 at Tiger Stadium in Grambling, La.
UH is coming off a series split against Saint Mary's, winning games one and two before dropping both ends of a doubleheader to conclude the series. The Rainbows continue to see excellent work from their pitching staff, continuing to lead the WAC with a 2.66 ERA. Despite Collin Bennett earning WAC Hitter of the Week honors, UH is hitting a conference-low .252.
Jarrett Arakawa improved on his WAC-best ERA (1.75), allowing just one earned run in UH's 7-5 game two win over Saint Mary's. Sisto and Arakawa rank No.1 and No.3 in the WAC in walks per game with 0.87 and 1.46, respectively.
Following their games at San Jose State and Grambling, the Rainbows will conclude the trip against Louisiana Tech (Apr. 26-28).
