Rainbows Make It Two Straight Over Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i baseball team defeated No. 13 Fresno State on Saturday, 6-2. The win was the second straight over the Bulldogs, as the Rainbows improve to 9-1 in the WAC and 24-17 overall. Fresno State drops to 8-5 in conference and 28-9 overall.

Hawai'i broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the ninth inning to pace to the win.  Zach Swasey (1 H, 2 RBI) capped the big inning with an RBI-single, scoring Breland Almadova and Jesse Moore (1 R, 1 RBI). Six different Rainbows hit safely in the game, headlined by Kolten Wong's homerun in the sixth inning.

Dusty Robinson led the Bulldogs batting 3-4 with one run and one RBI, including a solo homerun in the sixth inning.

Rainbow starter Jarrett Arakawa pitched 6.2 innings before leaving the game with the scored tied 2-2. He allowed two earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Brent Harrison (1-1) earned the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Charlie Robertson (0-5) was tagged with the loss for FSU in relief of starter Josh Poytress. Poytress tossed 7.1 innings allowing two runs on three hits.

Sean Montplaisir recorded one hit and one RBI, and Garrett Champion added one hit and one run.

The Rainbows and Bulldogs play game three of their series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time (10:00 a.m. HST).
