Dew Named CoSIDA All-Academic District 8

HONOLULU –University of Hawai'i women's basketball player Rebecca Dew was named to the Capital One College Sports Infomation Directors of America's Academic Women's Basketball All-District 8 team announced by CoSIDA.

Dew, a 6-4 post player from Auckland, New Zealand is an Engligh major who is also a Golden Key member and a WAC all-academic player last season. Dew has played in all 24 games this season with one start against East Carolina (12/21). She is averaging 2.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in 10.3 minutes a game. Dew posted a season-high 10 points against UCLA (12/19) and had a season-best seven rebounds against Columbia (12/28).
 
Dew along with Alice Coddington from Utah State and Idaho's Yinka Olorunnife represented the Western Athletic Conference on the all-district second team.

Only three other Rainbow Wahine have earned this honor. Raylene Howard received the award twice (2004-05 and 2006-07) on the second team; BJ Itoman was named to the third team in 2005-06; and most recently, Brittany Grice was voted to the third team in the 2007-08 season.
 
In order to be nominated for the prestigious Academic All-District and All-America honors, a player must be a starter or significant reserve, must have a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and must have completed at least one full academic year at her institution. Voting is done by member of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
