HONOLULU – Fans who purchase University of Hawai`i men's volleyball or women's basketball season tickets at the “Meet The Coaches” event at Murphy's Bar & Grill on Thursday, July 16, will receive a free Under Armour polo shirt, compliments of Rainbowtique and UH Athletics, and a free barbecue chicken dinner, compliments of Murphy's.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs until 9:00 p.m.on Merchant Street in downtown Honolulu.
Charlie Wade, the new men's volleyball head coach, and Dana Takahara-Dias, the new women's basketball head coach, will be there with their staffs. Fans will receive information about UH season tickets for 2009-10 and Rainbowtique will be selling UH merchandise.
Admission is free and food and beverages will be available for purchase. The event is being sponsored by Anheuser-Busch, Castle Resorts and Hotels, and Murphy's. For more information, call 531-0422.
Wade, the program's fifth head coach, is a former UH women's volleyball assistant from 1995-2005, and was most recently the head women's volleyball coach at University of the Pacific. Joining Wade's staff is associate coach Dan Fisher and assistant coach Mason Kuo.
Takahara-Dias, a four-year UH letterwinner from 1984-88, is the program's seventh head coach since becoming a varsity sport in 1974 and first woman head coach since Patsy Dung (1974-79). Joining Takahara-Dias' staff is associate coach Da Houl, assistant coach
Serenda Valdez, and director of operations Sherice Ajifu.
