Moala Earns MW’s Weekly Honor After Game-Saving Block

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Hawai'i freshman defensive lineman Viane Moala was named the Mountain West's Special Teams Player of the Week after his game-saving block in the Rainbow Warriors' 14-13 victory over Fresno State.

With the Warriors clinging to a one-point lead, the Bulldogs set up for a potential game-winning 43-yard field goal attempt by Kody Kroening with :05 left. The 6-foot-7 true freshman penetrated the line and blocked the kick to seal the victory. Prior to the miss, Kroening had connected on 15 consecutive attempts, including twice, earlier in the game.

For Moala, it was his second block of the season after blocking a field goal attempt at San Jose State.

With the victory, UH snapped a five-game losing streak to the Bulldogs, picking up its first win in the series since a 49-27 victory in 2010.
