2017 Schedule
HONOLULU – The 2017 University of Hawai'i men's volleyball schedule will feature 17 home matches and a new Mountain Pacific Sports Federation format.
In addition, the team announced a pair of fall exhibition matches against UC Irvine, Friday, Oct. 28 and SportConX, Wednesday, Nov. 16. Both matches will be held at the Stan Sheriff Center with 7:00 p.m., start times and are free to the public.
The season begins with the 23
rd Outrigger Resorts Invitational, Jan. 5-7, featuring Ball State of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, Princeton of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association and Erskine College of Conference Carolinas. UH last played Ball State in 2011 and the Cardinals have played in four previous Outrigger tournaments. It will be the first meeting for UH against both Princeton and Erskine.
The Rainbow Warriors will also host a pair of two-match, non-conference series with Grand Canyon of the MIVA, Jan. 11 & 13, and the NAIA's Grand View, Jan. 27 & 29, both at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The new MPSF schedule consists of 18 matches with UH playing four "arrested" matches – only one league match each against UC Irvine (Jan. 21 in Irvine, Calif.), UC San Diego (Feb. 10 in San Diego, Calif.), Cal Baptist (Feb. 11 in Riverside, Calif.), and USC (March 2 in Honolulu). The team's second match against USC, March 3 will not count in the MPSF standings.
UH will continue to play traditional two-match series against the rest of the MPSF with home matches against UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 3-4), Pepperdine (Feb. 24 & 26), USC (March 2-3), Stanford (March 10-11), and CSUN (March 24-25). Hawai'i will travel to Long Beach State (Jan. 18 & 20), BYU (March 17-18), and UCLA (April 7-8).
The schedule also includes rare non-conference road matches against the MIVA's McKendree (Feb. 14) and Lindenwood (Feb. 15). The last time UH played a non-conference regular season road match was at La Verne in 1996.
The MPSF Tournament begins with the quarterfinal round, April 15, and the semifinals and finals, April 20 & 22. The NCAA Championships will be hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, May 2, 4 and 6.
