HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i women's volleyball head coach
Dave Shoji announced the addition of freshman middle blocker Natasha Burns for the 2015 season. She joins an incoming class that includes MB Annie Mitchem, OH McKenna Granato, and MH/OH Casey Castillo.
Burns, who originally committed to West Virginia, received her release following a coaching change for the Mountaineers. She will join fellow Canadian
Emily Maglio on next year's squad.
"We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to sign 6-5 middle blocker Natasha Burns from Ontario, Canada," said Shoji, who will be entering his 41
st season at the helm of the 'Bows. "She will add depth to the middle blocker position and will allow us to be more versatile. She has great potential and we look forward to working with her and developing her as a player."
Burns played her high school ball at St. Mary's Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario and club for Defensa (U17), Mountain Volleyball Club (14U-16U) and the Halton Hurricanes. She also represented Canada at the International Children's Games (ICG) and helped her team to an 11th-place finish at the Canadian Nationals.
In addition, Burns was a member of St. Mary's basketball team, helping the squad to a trio of championships.
