No. 8 Women's Volleyball To Face TCU In NCAA First Round

Full NCAA Tournament Bracket

HONOLULU—The No. 8 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team will head to College Station, Texas to face TCU (19-9, 9-7 Big 12) in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament on Friday, December 4 at 4:30 p.m. (CST).  The Horned Frogs are an at-large team out of the Big 12 Conference.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will be the only non-Texas team in their section of the draw as the other half of Hawai'i's bracket will pit the host school, the No. 10-seeded, SEC Champion, Texas A&M Aggies  (22-6, 15-2 SEC) against the Southland Conference champions, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (31-4, 16-0 Southland). The two teams will face off at 6:30 p.m. (CST) following the UH vs. TCU match on Friday. It is Texas A&M Corpus Christi's first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament.
 
Hawai'i earned the Big West Conference's automatic bid after going undefeated in league action with a 16-0 record en route to capturing it's eighth BWC title and 24th overall conference crown.  It is UH's 22nd-straight appearance in the NCAA tournament and its 34th overall post-season appearance. The Rainbow Wahine have won 21-straight matches, including its last six conference matches on the road. In their last 10 matches, the 'Bows went 10-0 overall and 6-0 on the road. UH has not lost a match since falling to UCLA on Sept. 6.
 
Thirty-two conferences were awarded automatic qualification, and the remaining 32 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the bracket.  The top-16 teams were seeded nationally and placed within four regions. The teams tabbed as the top four seeds were No. 1 USC,  No. 2 Minnesota,  No. 3 Texas and No. 4 University of Nebraska.
 
First- and second-round matches will be played at 16 campus sites.  Teams winning both matches will move on to regional play December 11 and 12. The pre-determined regional sites are Austin, Texas, Des Moines, Iowa, Lexington, Ky., and San Diego, Calif. All regional semifinal matches will be shown on ESPN3. Regional final matches will air on ESPNU.
 
The regional winners will advance to the semifinals and final hosted by Nebraska at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska on December 17 and 19. Both national semifinal matches as well as the championship match will be broadcast by ESPN2.
