Heading into his second year as head coach of the University of Hawai'i, Norm Chow vowed to spread out the offense this season and that was evident during the spring instrasquad scrimmage in which both teams combined to pass for more than 350 yards and five touchdowns.

UH returns two starters at wide receiver in Scott Harding and Billy Ray Stutzmann while the star of the spring game Chris Gant also returns. For the second straight year, Stutzmann, a senior from Honolulu, led the team in receiving with 35 receptions for 447 yards. He has caught a pass in 23 consecutive games dating back to his freshman season and has totaled 1,487 receiving yards during his career.

In his first full season as a starter, Harding, a junior from Brisbane, Australia, caught 20 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns. He led the team with an 16.0 yards per reception average last season, however his biggest asset to the team is as punt returner, where he ranked among the nation's leaders in return average at 12.8 per return. He enters this season as a preseason first-team all-Mountain West punt returner by several publications.

Gant, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., hauled in 22 catches for 232 yards last season. He shined in the spring game, where he reeled in five catches for 106 yards and two scores. Also returning is Allen Sampson, who missed last season due to a knee injury. The junior from Tampa, Fla., played his first two years at UH at both slot receiver and kickoff returner.

Also returning are Samson Anguay, Duke Bukoski, Bubba Poueu-Luna and Donnie King Jr., Anguay, a sophomore from 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu who redshirted in 2011, missed the entire season due to a knee injury which he suffered last summer. Bukoski sat out last season after transferring from Idaho State while Poueu-Luna was a safety the past two seasons for the Warriors. King, who has seen limited action in his three seasons at UH, has seen significant reps in fall camp.

Chow and the coaching staff went hard after receivers during the off-season and landed talented JUCO receiver Vasquez Haynes out of Blinn Junior College, freshmen Ammon Barker of Sandy, Utah, homegrown talent Keelan Ewaliko of Wailuku, Maui, Marcus Kemp of Layton, Utah, and Keith Kirkwood of Neptune, N.J. All will be given the opportunity to play right away, with Haynes the most likely contributor. The Houston, Texas, native played only one year at Blinn and has three years of eligibility remaining. In his only season, Haynes led the team with 47 receptions for 742 yards and seven touchdowns.

Just a week into camp, Ewaliko has impressed the coaches with his athleticism enough to be switched to the defensive side of the ball as a candidate at safety. Barker, Kemp, and Kirkwood all have the size (6-foot-3 and above) and ability to play right away.

Transfer Daniel Masifilo spent two years at Arizona State and prior to that began his career at Mount San Antonio College. The 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu native and Campbell High School graduate has one year of eligibility remaining and has seen significant playing time thus far in camp.

The tight end position is loaded with four returnees – Craig Cofer, a senior from Livermore, Calif.; Clark Evans, a senior from Tustin, Calif.; Harold Moleni, a sophomore from West Valley City, Utah; and Jordan Pu`u-Robinson, a senior from Wailuku, Maui.

Cofer, Evans and Moleni all saw time in the starting lineup last season while Pu'u-Robinson is a converted defensive lineman who played in two games last year before suffering a season-ending hand injury.

Freshman Meffy Koloamatangi moved to tight end after spending the first few days of camp on the defensive line. The younger brother of offensive lineman Leo Koloamatangi played both sides of the ball at Woodside High School in California, where he was first-team all-league as a defensive lineman.
