Rainbow Wahine Sailors Qualify For National Semifinals

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.  – The University of Hawaii women's sailing team finished runner-up at the PCCSC Women's Championships hosted April 20 by UC Santa Barbara. With a top-three finish the Rainbow Wahine qualified for the national semifinals to be held next week.
 
A total of eight teams competed in 32 races—16 each in the A and B divisions—completed over the course of the day. At the end of the day, the Rainbow Wahine finished runner-up at the championships for the third straight year. The Rainbow Wahine, finished with 101 points, 28 points ahead of third-place Santa Clara, which also qualified for the national semis. Stanford breezed to the championship with 61 points.
 
Sailing for UH were Madeline Kennedy and Katrina Berry in the A division (3rd place, 57 points) and Hanne Nagatani and Lindsay Stewart in the B division (2nd place, 44 points).
 
The Rainbow Wahine will join third-place finisher Santa Clara in Hampton, Va., for the national semifinals next weekend. A total of nine teams, including Stanford earned a bye into the ICSA national finals next month in St. Petersburg, Fla. UH will be one 18 teams sailing off in the semis in Virginia with the opportunity to advance to the finals. The UH coed squad will also be competing in next week's national semis for the dinghy divsion. The Rainbows have already qualified for the national finals for team racing.
