HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i men's tennis coach
John Nelson announced the addition of another player to the 2011-12 roster. Tassilo Schmid, a native of Esslingen, Germany has signed a national letter of intent and will attend UH this fall with four years of eligibility.
Schmid, who stands 6-3, is currently the 120th ranked men's player in Germany. He achieved as high as a No. 9 ranking among German juniors and shot up to as high as 25 in the European U16 rankings. Schmid has competed in numerous elite tournaments, including in the qualifiers of last year's MercedesCup, an ATP event in Stuttgart, Germany. Schmid was also the 2009 Leuggern Junior Trophy doubles champion.
Schmid looks to follow the footsteps of UH's most recent German recruits. Recent graduates
Sascha Heinemann and
Andreas Weber were both four-time all-conference players.
Schmid joins Chas Okamoto, the 2011 Hawai'i state champion, in this year's men's tennis recruiting class. UH lost three seniors from last season's team, including 2011 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year
Dennis Lajola.
