Rainbow Baseball Falls To Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – At Pete Beiden Field, the University of Hawai'i baseball team was defeated by Fresno State, 4-2. The WAC-leading Rainbows suffer their first loss of the series as they fall to 9-2 in the WAC and 24-18 overall. FSU improves to 9-5 in conference and 29-9 overall.

Breland Almadova led the 'Bows at the plate, batting 2-4 with one run. Kolten Wong and Collin Bennett both recorded two hits, with Wong adding one RBI.

Brennan Gowan led the Bulldogs hitting 3-3 with two runs and three RBI. It was Gowan's two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning that gave FSU a 4-2 lead and eventually the win.

Zach Gallagher (4-2) tossed a season-high eight innings for UH in suffering the loss. He allowed four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts. Tyler Linehan (3-1) allowed two runs over 7.1 innings to earn the win.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring with a run in the first inning, but UH responded with two fifth-inning runs to take a 2-1 lead. Jesse Moore belted his first homerun of the season and Wong gave Hawai'i the lead with an RBI-base hit. Gowens tied the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI-single, then gave FSU the lead permanently with his homerun two innings later.

The Rainbows and Bulldogs play their series finale Monday at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time (3:00 p.m. HST).
