HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team lost tonight to No. 13 Cal State Fullerton, 3-0. The game was the series opener between the two teams, as the Rainbows fell to 11-10 while the Titans improved to 13-8.
Noe Ramirez (3-2) earned the win for Fullerton, tossing eight innings allowing no runs on two hits. Matt Sisto (1-3) pitched seven innings for the loss. He allowed one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts.
The 'Bows threatened in the eighth inning when Kolten Wong came to the plate with the bases loaded. Wong could not produce the tying run, though, as he struck out to end the inning.
Zack Swasey and Michael Blake both recorded hits for the Rainbows. Anthony Trajano (2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Blake Barber (2-3, 1 RBI) led the way for the Titans.
Barber's RBI-triple was the big hit of Fullerton's two-run fourth inning. After Trajano scored on a fielder's choice, Barber knocked in Nick Ramirez (0-3, 1 R) to give the Titans the 2-0 lead.
There were 4,170 tickets issued for the contest and a turnstile count of 3,143.
Hawai'i and Fullerton continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader. Start time is set for 3:05 p.m.
