Murphy’s Pigskin Pigout Nets $100,000 For UH Football

HONOLULU – The Murphy's Pigskin Pigout, which benefitted the University of Hawai'i football team, netted nearly $100,000. The 14th annual event, held Thursday, Aug. 20, at Murphy's Bar and Grill in downtown Honolulu attracted hundreds of Warrior football fans.

The money raised will go toward the Ben Yee Summer School Scholarship Program for UH Football. Over the years, the Pigskin Pigout has helped raise more than $1.6 million for UH football.

Head coach Greg McMackin and the entire football coaching staff attended, as well as other head coaches from UH other sports. The event kicks off the year-long celebration of the Centennial of UH football.

Fans were able to meet the coaches, talk football, and enjoy a live auction. Auction items included neighbor island trips, trips to the mainland, sports memorabilia, and much more. Among the auction items included a trip to San Diego, Calif., with tickets to watch the San Diego Chargers vs. Washington Redskins. Former UH quarterback Colt Brennan is a member of the Redskins while former UH offensive lineman Kynan Forney plays for the Chargers.

The 2009 Warrior football season kicks off, Friday, Sept. 4 against Central Arkansas at Aloha Stadium.
