Warriors Hold Final Tuneup For Nevada At Mackay Stadium

RENO, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i football team held its final workout, Friday afternoon, in preparation for tomorrow's Western Athletic Conference match-up against league-leader Nevada at Mackay Stadium.

Kickoff is 1:05 p.m. PT (10:05 a.m. HT) and the game will be televised live on Oceanic Pay-Per-View (Channel 255). In addition, fans can listen to the game live on ESPN 1420 AM, beginning with the “Countdown To Kickoff” show at 8:30 a.m. Neighbor islands can listen live on KNUI on Maui, KPUA in Hilo, KMWB in Kona.

The Warriors (2-5, 0-4 WAC) arrived in Reno late Wednesday night and held a two-hour practice Thursday at a local high school, where the temperature was 50 degrees. It was a much different story during Friday's walkthrough with the temperature reaching 70 degrees, much like the weather UH and Nevada will see tomorrow.

Hawai'i is currently in the midst of a five-game losing streak after starting the season with victories over Central Arkansas and Washington State. The Warriors have also lost all four conference games. On the opposite side of the field, the Wolf Pack (4-3, 3-0) have won four consecutive games after beginning the season with three straight losses.

The Warriors lead the overall series between the schools 7-6, including three straight wins since 2006, all of which were decided by seven points or less. In fact, the last two meetings have been decided in the final 20 seconds of the game. The Warriors won 28-26 in Reno in 2007 on Dan Kelly's game-winning field goal with 11 seconds and last season, Malcolm Lane hauled in a 24-yard touchdown reception with 20 seconds left.

Both UH and Nevada possess potent offenses. Nevada leads the country in rushing (320.1 yards per game) while the Warriors rank third nationally in passing (348.9). Nevada also ranks second in total offense (505.6) and 10th in scoring (35.1).

The Warriors return to Honolulu early Sunday morning and will host Utah State, Saturday, Nov. 7, in its annual Homecoming Game. Kickoff is 5:05 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
