Flemings Named WAC Player of the Week

Roderick Flemings drives against Prairie View A&M
DENVER – University of Hawai'i guard Roderick Flemings has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 8-14. The honor marks the first career WAC Player of the Week award for Flemings.

Flemings is also the first Rainbow Warrior to win the award since Matt Lojeski in March 2007.  The junior from Dallas, Texas (Weatherford College), tied a Stan Sheriff Center record for points by a UH player when he registered a career-high 37 points in a 75-55 win over Eastern Washington Saturday night. Flemings finished 16-of-23 (.696) from the field, 1-of-3 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe against the Eagles. He scored nine straight points during a crucial UH run in the second half to deny an Eastern Washington rally. The win was Hawai'i's fourth straight at home.

In a 68-58 loss at Illinois on Dec. 8, Flemings recorded his second straight double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. He also added three blocks against the Illini. On the week, Flemings averaged 25.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists, while shooting 64.7 (22-of-34) percent from the field.

Flemings and the rest of the Rainbow Warrior squad look for their fifth straight home win when they host Chicago State on Monday, Dec. 15 at 7:05 p.m.
