HONOLULU- The University of Hawai'i women's basketball program announced on Thursday,
Alex Delanian will be rejoining the coaching staff effective immediately.
"I'm excited to announce that
Alex Delanian will be returning to our 'ohana," said head coach
Laura Beeman. "Hawai'i is a special place, and our program is a special program. Finding the perfect fit for players to join our program is huge and finding the right coach for these players is as important. Coach Delanian is that fit. He's a special coach and understands Hawai'i is about being apart of something bigger than you. Welcome back, Alex."
Delanian first stint with the Rainbow Wahine began in the 2013-14 season when he served as the director of basketball operations for one season. From 2014-16 he served as an assistant coach helping lead the program to a Big West Conference regular season title in 2015 and a tournament championship along with an NCAA tournament bid in 2016. During the 2016-17 campaign, he served as the team's associate head coach.
Over his three years of coaching at UH, Delanian worked primarily with post players. Upon his return, he'll resume his duties with post players as well as work closely with the offensive game plan and international recruiting.
"I feel incredibly lucky to have this opportunity: to return to the University of Hawai'i, to return to the state of Hawai'i, and to work once again with Coach Beeman," said Delanian. "Having experienced the growth of this program under her guidance, the sky is the limit for what we can accomplish in an incredibly special place. I'm beyond excited to get started and join a group of student-athletes, staff, and coaches that have championship aspirations along with the work ethic to match."
Delanian's career in women's college basketball has recently expanded over a decade. Last season, he served as the associate head coach for UC Santa Barbara and before his first stint at UH he spent five seasons at the University of Southern California beginning in 2008. During his time with the Trojans, he worked his way up from a graduate assistant/video coordinator position his first two seasons, to becoming the director of basketball operations for three years.
Before his coaching career Delanian earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from USC. He graduated with a B.A. in print journalism in 2007 and received his master's degree in communication management in 2010.
