HONOLULU -- After 28 years of service to University of Hawai'i student-athletes, athletics administrator
Marilyn Moniz-Kaho'ohanohano has decided to retire June 1.
Moniz-Kaho'ohanohano was hired in 1989 by Stan Sheriff to oversee and develop Rainbow Wahine Athletics. Under her leadership four sports were added during the 1990s. In 2011 beach volleyball was brought on board to ensure compliance with Title IX by providing equal participation opportunities for women.
"Marilyn has been a true difference-maker for the University of Hawaii Athletics," Athletics Director David Matlin said. "The Department has come a long way in the realm of Gender Equity and Title IX mainly due to her efforts, and our female student-athletes have reaped the benefits. UH Athletics is grateful for Marilyn's service, longevity, and commitment. She has been an ambassador for Hawai'i to our counterparts on the mainland and we will always remember her for her passion and aloha spirit."
Since 2000, NCAA Compliance Student-Athlete Services and the NCAA Academic Performance Program have been added to her list of responsibilities. She also represented UH Athletics on conference and national levels.
"As a Rainbow Wahine Volleyball player in the early '70s until now, I have been privileged to be a part of a great legacy and a source of inspiration to many girls and boys in our community," Moniz-Kaho'ohanohano said. "Proud tradition. Bright future. Let's Go 'Bows!"
