HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i men's basketball coach Eran Ganot announced the hiring of Todd Okeson as the program's Director of Basketball Operations. Okeson brings a wealth of experience after numerous stops along the collegiate and professional levels.
 
In his new role, Okeson will be help coordinate the program's academics, youth camps, housing, and travel needs and will serve as a liaison for community, booster, and marketing efforts.  He'll also provide administrative support for recruiting and budgeting.
 
"We're excited that Todd and his wonderful family will be joining our program," Ganot said. "Todd possesses all the qualities we're looking for. First and foremost, he's a man of impeccable character. He has strong values and will be a terrific mentor for our student-athletes. He's also very experienced—he's been in both coaching and operations and has had a hand in every facet of running a program. Todd will bolster an already strong coaching staff  we having coming back and enable us to continue to move forward from an operational standpoint."
 
Okeson's most recent stop was at Southern Utah out of the Big Sky Conference where he was an assistant coach for the last four seasons (2012-16). Okeson, who briefly served as the program's interim head coach this past spring, was the team's offensive coordinator and worked with the team's backcourt. He was also in charge of scheduling, recruiting, and team academics.
 
Prior to Southern Utah, Okeson spent three years at the University of Georgia as a graduate assistant and then as an operations assistant (2009-12).  He also boasts experience in the pro ranks as an operations assistant with the Reno Bighorns of the NBDL (2008-09).
 
A native of Kansas, Okeson has familiarity with Hawai'i after enjoying a two-year playing career with former Western Athletic Conference rival Nevada.  He was the starting point guard on the 2004 Wolfpack squad that captured the WAC championship and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
 
Okeson went on to playing professionally in Europe and in the American Basketball Association and United States Basketball League, before returning to Reno to begin his coaching career as a program assistant with Nevada in 2006.
